You might wonder why this massive stone building, which was build to resemble a French Fortress, was built. One reason |
that in 1849 a great fire left one third of the city in ruins and created an ordinance that future buildings be constructed of brick, stone, iron or other non-flammable materials. Union Station was once the largest and busiest passenger rail station in the world. Now Union Station has been created into a festival marketplace of shops, restaurants and clubs. Across the street you will see the fountain "The meeting of the waters", which represents the union of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers in St. Louis. This is just one of the interesting places you will visit on our tour of St. Louis. We hope you all can join us and we know you will have fun.
