good work, we appreciate it. Bill and Diane Powers" I also received a note from Milton (Knute) Knutsen 3rdPlt/MG 12/50-10/51 telling me about a little bit of history of the OLD CORPS! "It seems that General Raymond Davis, USMC (Ret), William (Bill) Kent MGP1t 2nd Section 7/51-7/52, and Knute all served on the Heavy Cruiser USS Portland CA33 in their sea-going days, but at different times." Further, he goes on to say, "Just more proof that 1/7 got some of the best, even got a guy who came up from Subic Bay. RPI. Wow!" Wonder who he is referring to? "Capt. Shifty, I received a website from a lady in Australia and it is the website of Australian Veterans who served in the Korean War. Her name is Olwyn Green and she is the Widow of Lt.Col.Charles Green a Bn. Commander who was KIA while serving in Korea. If any of your troops was in the Battle of the Hook or was on line with the Royal Australian Regt. She would like to hear their stories and would like any photos taken on the Hook. Her email address is: ogreen@ozzemail.com.au Check out Australian Web Site: www.kmike.com/oz/album.htm Semper Fidelis Charles Owens A/1/7 WW II" "Hello Shifty, I was forwarded a letter you sent to Nat Holmes about your Able Co organization and I was glad he sent it to me. I was in Alpha 1/7 with Nat in 67/68 and I for one am always glad to meet brother Marines |
no matter what era. But the main reason I was glad to get your letter is that my father was in Able 1/7 in 52/53. His name is Cpl Bernie Seeley, who was in the lstSqd 3rdMG Section. Here is something you might want to tell some of your buddies about my dad. I am his son and I was in A/1/7 lstSqd MG Viet Nam. I live in New Port Richey, Florida and my dad lives 30 miles away in Spring Hill. We're both are life members of the 1st Marine Corps Association. Also, my brother was in the Corps and my Daughter also. My 14 year old granddaughter, who is in JROTC, says she too wants to join the Corps. Just a little something about former Able Co brothers. Semper Fi! Nick Seeley Email from Charles Woodward 60MM PltLdr/XO 2/52-9/52 Tyler, TX "Eddie, Alf, Skipper (Capt Shifty) and Sgt.Major Skinner. I'm not very good at this, so please forgive any errors. Was saddened by the notice of "Onti's" death. Although I did not know him well, we served together in Korea, and I knew him through Eddie and Alf. I know he and Eddie were very close, as was Alf. "Onti" was a good man, a good friend to those who knew him, and a good Marine. I can think of no better accolade. I'm reminded of two messages, one from my Prayer Book and one from the Hymn. First "May the souls of the faithful departed in the mercy of God rest in peace" and the Second "Should the Army or the Navy ever look on heavens scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines." I believe we can all look forward to finding "Onti" at his Post. SEMPER FIDELIS! Woody" |
