A/1/7 MARINE ASSOCIATION met at the Crown Reef Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC during the period of 21-24 October 2001. This was the sixth reunion for our association. They were 69 warriors and 80 guests in attendance. On Monday evening 114 of the association attended "The Carolina Opry." A/1/7 was seated in one section of the theater and introduced during the intermission as a group. We were asked to stand and be recognized and received a warm welcome from the crowd. The entertainers were excellent in their performances and the scenery was outstanding. Our guest speaker, Major General William P. ESHLEMAN, USMC (Ret) and his lady Patricia, attended the show with the group as our guests. All those that I spoke to told me that they certainly enjoyed to show and was very well pleased that the reunion committee had arranged for us to attend it. Semper Fi! "Shifty" Major General William P. ESHLEMAN USMC (Ret) was our guest speaker. He is a native of Little Rock, AR and Silver Spring, Md. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps after graduation from the U. S. Naval Academy in 1959, with a B.S. Degree in General Engineering. General ESHLEMAN served in a variety of command and staff positions as a Lieutenant and Captain both in South-West Asia and the US. He also earned his Aerial Observation Wings and his Paratrooper Wings. In 1967 General ESHLEMAN served in Vietnam with the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines and later he served as an advisor to the 4th Battalion Vietnamese Marine Corps. Then a tour of duty in Thailand and several tours of duty at Headquarters, U. S. Marine Corps. While at HQMC he served as the Assistant Legislative Assistant to the Commandant of the Marine Corps. In 1980-81 General ESHLEMAN attended the U. S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Carlisle, PA. In 1983 he served as G-4 III Marine Amphibious Force and Chief of Staff 3rd Marine Amphibious Brigade. (Continued page 2)  Check it out!!!
