"Shifty,
After not hearing from SgtMajor Wehenger for a long period of time I finally got a letter and photo from him. The photo of him with a 190 pound, 9 point buck he shot on Thanksgiving Day on his own 4 1/2 acres. (Picture follows) He looks fit and squared away as usual. You know if he and I jumped into a pigpen together he would come out with his utilities starched and pressed with a spit shine on his boots. I would come out looking like I jumped into a pigpen. Pleased to say he seems to be doing well at 82 years of age and 3 wars behind him, Merry Xmas and Happy New Year. SEMPER FI! JIM" ![]() Good shooting Sgt Major! Guess your Marine training came in handy, huh? |
I received an email from John (Jack) Eagan the son of MSgt Charles Eagan USMC (Ret) - 3rd PltSgt 8/52 -8/53.
"Gentlemen: The purpose of this missive is to inform all those who may have served with my father, Charles G. Eagan, with "Able" 1/7 in Korea from June 1950 through July of 1953 of his passing on November 23, 2003. After a long battle with COCPD, and a myriad of associated illness, he passed away in the presence of his family in Cumberland, Maryland. He was interred with Honors at the Rocky Gap National Veterans Cemetery, in Allegany County, Maryland. Having served in Vietnam as well (with "F" Co, Mar Support Bn, at Fubai) he retired from the Corps in 1970, but remained "always a Marine". He served as a Veterans Service Rep, and was a member of the VVA, DVA, the Marine Corps League, VFW, and The Legion. Through the years, I have personally witnessed his rendering assistance to all Marines, and their families, including some of my own troops during my own career in the Corps. He was at the side of many as they "shipped over to their Final Duty Station". As his health waned, his focus seemed to be those Marines with whom he served in Korea. Contact with his "Brothers in Arms" (or their families) brought him tremendous joy. His inability due to his decline to go online to email friends or visit Marine oriented websites in the past year or so was devastating to him. |
My father had worked diligently while he was able to try to contact as many as possible, as well as gather together a variety of memorabilia (including photos and unit diaries) of his time in Korea. If this material is of interest to anyone, please feel free to contact me.
His wife, Hazel E. Eagan, three daughters, two sons, eleven grandchildren, and "a mess" of great-grandchildren survive him. All are welcome to contact the family at: 19919 Lonaconing Street, Midland, Maryland 21542 Tel: 301-463-2127 Upon his passing the family has requested donations to the Korean War Veterans Memorial Fund, the DVA, or the VVA; rather than flowers or cards in memoriam. Please forward this message to any/all members of the Stable Able Association. Thank you, Semper Fidelis John G. "Jack" Eagan" Received email from George Norris: "I received the news yesterday (Saturday the 20th) of the death of another A/1/7 Warrior Robert "Skinhead" Graham's passing away on 12/02/03. I hadn't been in touch with him in quite sometime and thought that I would give him a call to see how he was doing. His wife answered the phone and gave me the bad news. He passed away in his sleep at home. |
