POOPSHEET ![]() This month there will be a shorter version of Sgt Major Jim Skinner's Poopsheet due to circumstances beyond his control. I trust future issues will be more like what we are accustomed to with information concerning his communication with warriors of "Stable Able One Seven" and his down home style of writing. Just a note to say hello. I was in Korea and a member of Able Company, 7th Marines from Jan 1950 till late June 1950. I was a PFC in a rifle squad and later a Corporal and assistant gunner in a mortar section. I can't remember hardly any of the names except my foxhole buddy, (last name Murphy.) I'm sure I would recognize many more names if I heard them. Off hand, I think I left Korea sometime in late June on emergency leave, (when I was notified by the Red Cross that my dad was seriously ill and not expected to live). I remember that someone told me that our company was engaged in a heavy firefight almost immediately after I left. I also remember that our Captain, (can't remember his name "this would be Captain Smith") asked me to take a mule down the hill that was left behind by the ROKs. I'd be curious to know if you have some names of other A Company personnel who served |
during that same period. I'm retired from work at a government-manufacturing arsenal and presently reside in Waterford, NY. Best regards, Dominick R. Ippolito 37 Clemente Lane Waterford, NY 12188-1419 (518) 237-8862 Marine Dominick, Name here is Jim Skinner. I served in Stable Able One Seven from Apr51 to Jan52. Very pleased you have con-tasted Shifty and do hope you will join the A/1/7 Association and muster with your old company in the future. I have most copies of the MPRs. You first appear on the 28Feb51 MPR as: IPPOLITO, Dominick, 1099924/0300. On the May51 MPR you are shown as Corporal with MOS of 0333. Presume that was Mortar Man. On the Jun51 MPR you are shown as dropped on 18Jun51. I will copy the May51 MPR and send to you. Don't know when I can do that. Recall the mortars had heavy losses including the PltLdr, Lt Curry, on or about 22/23 Apr51. They also got maltreated again in early Jun51 by incoming as we were going up a small hill near Yanggu. Remember some mules and horses as we were going towards Yanggu. Most vivid is the horse Tex Bauer, 3rd platoon, was in charge of until we had to climb that steep mountain the evening of 28May51 when Tex had to let it go. Stay loose!! Semper Fi!! Jim Sergeant Major Skinner Thank you for listing my uncle, Dionicio J. Gorena, Jr. on your Roll of Honor. Although I never was able to meet him, I know that he died fighting a battle for my current freedom as all of these men and more have. I want to
personally thank you, too, for the service you have rendered to our great Nation on my behalf and on behalf of my family.
May God bless you richly and may He bless our great United States during these days of war against terrorism. Again, thank you. Denilio (Denny) J. Gorena Associate & Student Pastor First Baptist Church Gun Barrel City, Texas FBCyuts@aol.com Had a land line call from "Onti" Ontiveros and had a nice long chat. He's enjoying living in San Antonio, says it's a partying town and wished he'd moved there when he was fit to party. He had picked up a cane to help him steady himself. The VA issued him a wheelchair but it's not motorized, just one of those self-propelled jobs! Semper Fi! Jim Anthony J.
