I received an email from Harry Alfeo 2nd Sqd 2nd Plt - 5/51- 7/51 He wrote "Since I live just outside of Corpus Christi, I stopped by to visit George Norris and his wife to let them know we are behind him 110%. Isn't that what being a Marine is?" "Also, I stopped to see "Onti" for about four and one-half hours. His involvement in his community over the years should make all of us proud. I plan to see him again and hopefully by that time, he will have been fitted for his prosthesis and ready to go dancing with Mary Jane. Please tell our buddies to keep those emails coming, but for George and "Onti" as they mean so much to them at this time." Semper Fidelis - Harry Alfeo "Onti" lost part of his leg this year due to poor circulation. |
He is in therapy now and has a very positive attitude.
I also received an email from Guy Taylor 1st Sqd 1st Plt 5/51 - 5/52. "Howdy, just wanted to drop you a note and let you know that my wife and I attended a Memorial for Jack Walker (1st Sqd 1st Plt - 5/51 - 1/52). He had requested no type of service, but his friends decided that he needed one anyway. No one had closure the way it was done and so we had a nice luncheon in memory of him at the country club where he was a member. All his many friends got up and said some memorable things about him. I made sure that everyone knew of his love for the Marine Corps, and his dedication in trying to get a Silver Star for George Lunsberg. (A member of the 1st Sqd 1st Plt) I bought a Marine Corps flag and gave it to his wife Mary Lou, who proudly had it displayed at the Memorial Service. It was a nice service and I think it helped everyone who attended. Even had some fellow Marines there in attendance." Semper Fi! Guy George was a member of the "lost patrol" that were sent up on hill 673 in September of 1951 to destroy enemy bunkers. Jack's story about this time and place appeared in the January 2002 issue. Semper Fi! "SHIFTY" CORRECTIONS TO ROSTER Edward C. Bitner, Platoon should read XO/CO - Sorry Ed! |
