12TH ANNUAL REUNION -
QUANTICO, VIRGINIA ![]() Since the 1st Battalion will be holding their reunion during the week of 2-5 October 2007, the members at our annual meeting in Erlanger, Kentucky voted to hold our 2007 Reunion during the middle of September. The exact date is not firm as yet. I am currently working with the Manager of the Host Hotel on the base at Quantico for our housing and with the catering company at the Officer's Club for our banquet. No final plans are available at this time but hopefully by the January issue of our 2007 Newsletter I will have all the details for you. Another reunion has been successfully completed and all the Marines/Guests have told me it was another great one. Our numbers were down somewhat this year due to illness and/or other reasons our members could not attend. We had several cancel-ations at the last minute, which were unavoidable. |
The Hotel was one of the finest that we have had thus far and the accommodations and staff were outstanding. We have never been treated as well as these find people did for us. They deserve a "Great Thank You."
The Welcoming Buffet Dinner was great with the ROTC Marines from Holmes High School, Covington, Kentucky, as our Color Guard. There were 13 of these you men and women, plus their instructor MSgt PERRY USMC (Ret). They were scattered through out the dinning room to visit with us Marines and guests. These young people are amazing and are truly interested in our Corps. After dinner the "The High Stepping Grannies" put on a lively show with many tap dancing numbers. The oldest lady I believe was 82 and she didn't slow down for any number! What gals! All of us enjoyed their routines and their friendliness towards our group. Thursday the 19th we took a River Boat down the Ohio River with lunch aboard the boat. This trip was very interesting, even though it was misting rain and sort of chilly. The sights along the river were great and all enjoyed themselves I am sure. At least I didn't hear any complaints. Friday the 20th we took a bus ride up the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio and toured their air museum. This is an outstanding one and if you ever have the opportunity to visit please do yourself the favor and take the tour. You won't regret it one bit! There is no charge at this facility |
Saturday the 21st we held our annual meeting and made plans for 2007 and 2008 reunions. After Quantico in 2007 we will be head-ing down to Galveston, Texas, hosted by Guy Taylor. I am sure everyone will be looking forward to their sunny island and that fine city of Galveston. I understand the temperature will be in the 70s or better. Be sure to mark your calendars for our next annual reunions. More will be forth coming on both of these reunions.
By the by again no one would volunteer to become President again this year, so I suppose I will do it again for my seventh year. Maybe next year? After the meeting there was a Memorial Service held by Harold (Muley) Mulhausen and Bill McCord to recognize our falling Marines and Wives who have passed on since our last meeting in San Diego, California. CHECK IT OUT!
