The 10th annual reunion in San Diego is over and as far as I know all that attended had a great time. The accommodations were great and the staff took care of us above and beyond the call of duty!

There were 72 Marines and guests registered but 100 attended our banquet. Major Earl Thompson USMC (Ret) and friend Dody Eiler hosted 12 guests at the banquet. Dody informed me that this would be Tommy's final reunion. We shall miss them at our future reunions I am sure!

Our guest speaker was Colonel Steward W. Navarre USMC, Chief of Staff, MCB, Camp Pendleton, CA. His wife Yana assisted him with his slide show about our Marines in Iraq and the job they are doing, which was very interesting. The Colonel was the former CO of the 5th Marines there.

Also, our special guests were Mrs. Janet
Smith, widow of Colonel Nathan Smith USMC (Ret) and their daughter Jeanie. It was great seeing Mrs. Smith again!

Another guest was the former CO of A/1/7 Iraq 2004 -2005 Captain Jon Markiewicz USMC. He thanked us for all the Christmas gifts that we sent to his troops last year.

Bob and Mickey Licker really did a bang up job hosting our reunion and we all appreciate all the hard work that they did to make it a success. Thanks to you!

Wednesday the 5th was check-in.

Thursday the 6th was an off day for sight-seeing and most of our group went on tours around the city and bay, with some going to the zoo.

Friday the 7th bright and early we left the hotel and rode a bus to the MCRD San Diego. We attended morning colors with the CG of the base giving a talk about the recruit depot. After this we took a wind-shield tour of the base.

We had the honor of reviewing the graduation ceremony of Golf Company Marines. More than 530 new Marines joined our ranks as they head out for their new duties in our Corps. Good luck Marines!

Next was chow with the troops and then off to a memorial service for the Korean War Veterans of A/1/7 at the Base Chapel. Chaplain F. P. Munoz LT, CHC, USNR and our own Bill Mc Cord 2nd Plt 6/51-6/52, a retired Methodist Minister
in charge of the service.

After the memorial service we had the opportunity to visit the MCRD Command Museum. Our own Colonel Smith had much to do setting it up. I know that Darlene and I enjoyed walking through this museum with all of his military history and artifacts as well as others I am sure.

After the tour our group headed off the to the Base PX and gift shop.

Returning to the hotel we had to get ready for the luau. Bob and Mickey contracted a Hawaiian Band with many gal dances that performed for us before and after our buffet of Hawaiian food. This was one of the highlights of our reunion. Many of our ladies and Marines were asked to do many of the native dances and they put on a great show. This ended a very long day for us.
